Under Windows, you need to access your hardware via an ASIO driver written specifically for the hardware, if available. If no ASIO driver is installed, it is recommended that you check with your audio hardware manufacturer if they have an ASIO driver available, for example for download from the internet.

If your Windows audio hardware doesn’t have a specific ASIO driver, a DirectX driver is the next best option. Cubase AI comes with a driver called ASIO DirectX Full Duplex.

ASIO DirectX Full Duplex Setup
You should have direct x full duplex as an option, but for specific sound card you have to choose, MW410 ASIO or something similar (if there is a specific ASIO driver for sound).

Seems like you should install all drivers and verify that it is working in windows, i.e. check control panel, sounds and audio devices.

Cheap sound card for cubase (or ASIO compliant)?

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

Question by : Cheap sound card for cubase (or ASIO compliant)?
I’ve just purchased cubase 5 and the Oxygen 8 keyboard, but i have no idea what to get in terms of a sound card (dont have one in this computer). I know that I need an ASIO compatible card but there really hard to find and dont really go lower than £70. For a beginner who want low latency, whats the best thing I can get for under £60?

Thanks.

Try the ASIO4ALL drivers, they work with many WDM capable cards or possibly even onboards.

KXproject provides ASIO capable drivers for **SOME** SB Live / SB Audigy cards

http://kb.kxproject.lugosoft.com/list.html – List of supported/unsupported cards. Only those based on the EMU10K1 / EMU10K2 can be supported by KX, and a few of those may have issues preventing full support – it seems many of the current models are NOT SUPPORTED

http://www.soundblaster.com/products/musicmovies/article.asp?articleID=53937&categoryID=15 – According to this, Creative X-Fi and selected Audigy models support ASIO – The only X-Fi that says ASIO is supported is the Extreme Music

The Asus Xonar D1 also appears to be ASIO capable, according to reviews.

See how you get on with the ASIO4ALL setup, and if you want a real cheapo card solution, then find a secondhand model supported by KX drivers
