If you are interested in modular analog synth sounds, Matthew Davidson, composer and electronic artist, has recently released a free 2GB sample library. The sounds are manipulated through a TipTop Audio Z8000 matrix sequencer . Davidson, also known as Stretta, said this about the library: “I’ve been using the TipTop Audio Z8000 for a while now, collecting material for a video, but I also kept a DAW file handy and recorded bursts of interesting output at various intervals. This process generated a lot of material, but it is clear to me it would be more useful in someone else's hands.” The library is free to use commercially, so if you fancy getting your hands on 2gb of useful audio to play with, click here to check it out.

It sounds like a joke, but it’s all too real: Native Instruments' next release is an Alicia Keys-endorsed Kontakt piano instrument called, unbelievably, “ Alicia’s Keys ”. It appears that the soul diva herself was involved in the recording of the instrument and used it comprehensively on the creation of her new album. Check it out! So what celebrity endorsed instruments would you like to see? We’d like to get our hands on “Trevor’s Horn”, but there must be some less risqué-sounding possibilities out there…

Fancy a shiny new Hyundai i30 car to roll around town in? Of course you do, but rather than splurging over £11,000 on one, why not enter Hyundai's remix competition to be in with a chance of winning one? This is a remix compo with a twist, as the supplied sample pack consists entirely of sounds recorded from a real-life i30. Sounds include honkin' horns, slamming boots, wipers (in three different speeds), grinding handbrakes, revving engines, and loads more. All you have to do is knock a track together using the samples, put it up on YouTube and fill in the entry form – entries will then be voted for by Joe Public and the composer of the most popular entry will win a brand new i30 car. Not bad! Hyundai are also encouraging entrants to add visuals to their YouTube clip, although this is not necessary to enter. Get on over to www.30beats.co.uk to find out more and get your hands on the sample pack – the compo closes on 1 October 2009, so get your skates on! To get you thinking along the right lines, Hyundai teamed up with DJ Krysko to try out the sounds and come up with a tune - the result is the house-influenced 30beats , which was debuted at Sankey's nightclub – check it out in the video below.
