remember! just equipment! i dont want ableton live or fl studio or reaper or whatever…thanks! Also, if you have ever played the game JSRF, that is the kind of electronica that I am wanting to play. Right now I am looking at the Korg Electribe, but anyother help woul be greatly appreciated!!!

I actually have the Korg Electribe EMX-1. It can do a lot! I’m guessing you’ve heard the samples of what it can do, pretty amazing.. The only problem is I think its kinda hard to use. It comes with about a 90-page book on how to do everything on it, which you MUST read to figure out all the different functions. Unfortunately I don’t have enough time to really get to use it to its potential. If you think u might want to do stuff live the Electribe could be good I think.

Aside from that it really depends on what u want to do and how much money u have, I always thought the MicroKorg would be a good thing to have, its cheap and small, something good to get started with I guess. Beyond that you would need a mixer to hook up your equipment too, that is if you have more than one device. And some good speakers of course, I have the 6″ KRK powered monitors and they sound great, but I don’t think they’re enough to use in front of an audiance.

Either way, you at least need something that can do basic beats like the Electribe or some other kinda drum machine.

Good luck and have fun!

Raw: Wii Waggling Meets the Studio – in Gustavo Bravetti + David Amo + Juli Navas

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Amo Navas Bravetti – Raw (live video) from Gustavo Bravetti on Vimeo.

Sure, novel controllers are fun to watch, like our friend Gustavo Bravetti, driving a Brazilian crowd wild by waving his Wii remote live. But what if you can’t see the performance gimmick, if you’re just listening to the track?

The pitch behind the track “Raw,” celebrating the fifth anniversary of Fresco Records, is just that. It’s a studio-produced track, but the artists wanted to maintain some of the improvised feel of the live music. The track pairs the hit DJ/producer duo of David Amo and Juli Navas with Gustavo Bravetti of Uruguay – the Ableton and alternative controller wizard who regularly feeds tutorials to CDM.

Of course, this trio aren’t the only folks thinking this way. The first sequencers gave us the power to arrange everything in advance, meaning people immediately began to seek ways to restore live feel, turning off the metronome and doing everything in one take. But it’s nice to see these high-profile artists – and our friend Gustavo – taking it on specifically with something as off-the-wall as a Wii remote.
