If I make a song in FL studio, is it subject to third party rights?

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

Question by TheHolyThief: If I make a song in FL studio, is it subject to third party rights?
I am entering a contest where all music must be created by the entrant or in the public domain. If I created a song using single hits from FL studio, does that count under created by the entrant? I’m simply not sure if FL studio has rights to any original music created. Any answers would be appreciated! Thank you.

Answer by Adarsh K
If you are using samples then no, it is your original, since samples are just prepaterened sounds, but if you are using the Premade Songs in FL studio then yes, cause they have original authors

the what party? is it like a Halloween party? i dunno what kind of party this is so its hard to say.
my girlfriend and i did ‘the night before and the morning after’
one of dresses sexy as hell, hair done perfect, makeup perfect. the other girl dresses in the same outfit, but disheveled, hair a mess from all night sex, makeup smeared on the face.
or if you’re more into funny, i had a group of my friends do ‘flies on shit’ one of them was a poop and the rest were flies, but the flys were all named like super fly, ghetto fly and so on

Pushing the Live Performance Envelope in LA: Mike Slott, Artists on Video; Party Friday

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

Music has always moved forward when people get together to play. Groups of artists in Los Angeles’ Interface LA collective – and other California groups, like LoveTech and controllerism.com – are challenging each other to keep expanding their technique in playing electronics live.

I’m pleased with CDM and some of our friends to support a party Friday night in downtown LA celebrating playing live. Interface LA is a group centered on live electronic music performance and interactions. We’ll be bringing you video coverage after the event here, thanks to talented videographer Charlie Visnic. But we can kick things off now with videos of the artists and work. And if you are in town, be sure to preorder tickets now, as we expect this to sell out really quickly and hope to see you there!

Videos, from top: Mike Slott (Brooklyn), who’s headlining Friday night, in an interview. Second from top, check out the crew in their last event at top, that one centering on the monome grid instrument.

I’m playing, as well (hey, I’ve got to put my money where my very large mouth is). But I’m really thrilled to get to share some time with a bunch of artists I love, many coming from San Francisco’s LoveTech and controllerism.com, and from LA’s own Interface LA regulars. The lineup:

Mike Slott
Moldover
Vass Glenison
Rich DDT
‘House Band’ (Smacktop Ensemble, featuring the awesome force that is the Smacktop laptop-that-you-hit)
Nonagon
Ro and the Interface LA crew
Presented with Novation and Ableton

Friday, January 21
Doors 9pm
18+
$ 10 cover

We also have an interactive work entitled (con)textile:

A digital installation using the Kinect, stop-motion and digital noise, and interactive audio” by Jeff Aaron Bryant.  Jeff is a composer working in digital media and kinetics. He is pursuing his MFA in music technology at California Institute of the Arts.

More Events in LA This Week

I have an early flight Saturday morning back to Berlin, but there are two other great events in Los Angeles this week if you happen to live in the area or are in town for a certain massive trade show down south in Anaheim.

TRASH_AUDIO NAMM BBQ 2012 has closed its RSVP, but if you do make it, let us know how it goes or (with, uh, permission) take photos of any cool stuff you find. Really wish the TRASH_AUDIO folks the best and all our modular and sound-making friends and Matrixsynth and company; I’ll be somewhere like 40,000 feet over Ireland while that’s going on.

Also, Droid Behavior is doing a party Friday night that should go late at an undisclosed location, the fifth anniversary of their Wham Bam series. I thoroughly enjoyed getting involved in that in 2010, and might duck in if I can on my way to LAX; the event here is not related, to clear up any potential confusion.

I wrote this song entirely for a Halloween party. Do you like it?

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

Question by FR3ERID3R: I wrote this song entirely for a Halloween party. Do you like it?
It’s techno themed for Halloween. the music intro is about 30 seconds and then the music starts.
This is the first completed song I have composed on flstudio. I don’t think it’s quite finished but I uploaded it to see what changes I should make. I have some new ideas but more is always better.
Just leave some opinions after you listen to it please. I’d appreciate it very much.

Grids, Chips, and Blips: Handmade Music NYC, Saturday 2/5 Lab + Party, Video Samples + Listening

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

Handmade Music is back on the Lower East Side of Manhattan with an epic lineup spanning digital synths to monomes to interactive installations to chip music. It’s a bit like stepping into the music tech world described on the Web. (For the vast majority of you outside NYC, hoping to have good documentation of recent events edited and available shortly.)

We’re moving to Saturday night and doing a proper party. Hack, ask, meet, geek, eat, drink, listen, watch, dance…

Full event details for New York, and plenty to watch and hear online for those of you in NYC and everywhere in the world:

OPEN LAB
3p – 6p, FREE

Come early to get a close look at what people are making, and expect some surprises.

  • MeeBlip user gathering for new MeeBlip owners (or those curious) in the NYC area. Check out our open source, affordable, hackable synth, or get help and ask questions.
  • mlrv2: Meet the latest-and-greatest from the monome world, the free software that turns grids from MPCs to Launchpads to monomes into live performance sampling instruments. Get a look up close and ask questions before the performance later in the evening. (See our coverage of the news.)
  • Bring your project! Building a synth? Got a Max for Live / Pd / Csound creation of which you’re proud? Circuit-bent project? Handmade CD case, band t-shirt, percussion made out of shells and wood? Bring them by, show them off, and share ideas with fellow DIY music inventors!

PARTY + LIVE MUSIC
7p – 2a; $ 20 cover includes an open bar 7-9p

Enjoy a wine and New York-brewed beer list celebrated by Frank Bruni with The New York Times, order from Culturefix’s excellent small plate menu, and stick around for a packed evening of music.

Culturefix Food + Drink menu

  • Diptych: Ben Black and Aiwen Wang-Huddleston’s elegant, sail-like sculptural live digital performance instrument.
  • Dissonics: Michael Cohen’s array of pylons form an alien, proximity-based performance.
  • monome music: Christopher Gilroy + Philippe ‘Flippy’ LeSaux, Galapagoose, and % tap out live grooves on the monome grid.
  • Chip music: Note! and Kris Keyser make infectious 8-bit music on Game Boys, some of the best virtuosos of the form.
  • Electronic music: Pulsing soundscapes by Ganucheau on laptop and myself on MeeBlip.

Hear and see the artists…

I’ve never been a fan of chip music for the sake of it; I really like to hear stuff that’s well-produced, compositionally interesting, and can stand alongside stuff that isn’t chip music. And I really like Note! (Christophe Richard) and Kris Keyser; there’s some great stuff, and it’s easy to point people who think they don’t like chip music or music made with Game Boys to this. Have a listen to Christophe’s most recent album, the free 12345:

http://note.monoanimal.com/

And Kris’ music:

We also have videos to give you an idea of the installation/interactive performance creations and monome music. First, premiering at NYU’s NIME (new instruments in musical expression) course:

Galapagoose plays live:

Some terrific audio and (with dementoid) visuals) from “owner/operator” (%) — “album” art for these electronic releases below, as I’m really digging it:

mezos by owneroperator

cognitives by owneroperator

And here’s the last time Ganucheau and I played together, with the Grant Sisters for Diana Eng’s fashion show.

Open Lab 3-6p
Party 7p-late with 7-9p open bar
