Outsim has released version 1.1.4 of SynthMaker , an audio programming tool for Windows PC. We’ve been focusing on VST plugin compatibility for this release. As a result weve managed to isolate and fix a number of important stability issues. In particular, deleting SM generated plugins inside a host should now be much more stable than before. Changes in SynthMaker v1.1.4 Fixed several memory issues that were causing crashes when deleting plugins in some host applications. Fixed a potentially large memory leak when loading bitmaps in SM and exported plugins and exes. Corrected a problem with Make Module where selections including Module Input or Output components could result in the wrong external connections being made or worse links could be dropped completely. Input buffers were not being reset correctly for ASIO In which was causing lingering audio glitches when switching between audio devices. Fixed a multithreading problem with the Is Playing component which was causing crashes and lock ups in exported VST plugins. SynthMaker is available for Windows PC, priced at

Cinematique Instruments has released Experimental Box , a collection of highgly playable rhythms, ambients and instruments which were assembled from glitch, noise, hiss, hum and other weird and bizarre sounds, giving you a wonderful tool for writing experimental and minimal music. “Experimental Music” is the genus for a couple of music styles, which incorporate unorthodox and unique elements. The Experimental Box we offer focuses on aspects of glitch, minmal and noise music and gives you a full toolbox of ingredients for cacophony, dissonance, atonality, noise, glitch, machines, hum, and repetition. It is a wonderful assortment of highgly playable rhythms, ambients and instruments which are perfect for writing music in an experimental and minimalist way. Beyond this, the box is suitable for combination with atmospheric, ambient and cinematic music…or just to build a wild cacophony. The rhythms, ambients and instruments of the Experimental Box were assembled from unique sounds such as stations-announcements, trains, paper crumpling, acoustic and electronic noise, station hum, underground-railway noise, pneumatic doors, crown cap shaking, glitches, noise, hiss, hum and other weirdness. Check out all the opportunities the instruments provide by using the modwheel and the programmed surface of NI´s Kontakt. Experimental Box features Brakes & Noises: Screaming brakes of an underground railway and noise ambience sent through a tape delay. Clashing Rails: Screaming rails and station ambience including an announcement gong. Modwheel switches between the two scenarios. Cuts Cap & Paper: A couple of tempo-synced loops: Crone-Cap shaking, Paper crumpling,

Some interesting things I found recently: # Drummer – A Collaborative Musical Interface with Mobility Andrea Bianchi, a Ph.D. student at the Graduate School of Culture Technology (GSCT) in the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea, wrote in to report about a homebrew music application named Drummer for the Nintendo DS which was presented at the NIME 2009 conference (New Interfaces for Musical Expression). Andrea writes: It is basically a collaborative musical instrument, where multiple Nintendo DS users can play individually on their devices in order to collaborate on a track. Tracks can be recorded simultaneously, one per user. The project tries to bridge mobile interfaces with collaborative music instruments (usually constrained by the need of physical proximity among players), in order to create a collaborative instrument for the stage. The system is based on client-server architecture over a wireless network; every client runs on a Nintendo DS -one of the most popular wireless handheld game devices with touch-screen functionality- while the server computer handles the clients’ requests and plays matching drum sounds with the software synthesizer. Each user can take advantage of this small and intuitive pen-based device in order to create or customize a drum kit, and then perform together with other users simply by tapping and sliding the pen on the screen. # CDM

Some interesting things I found recently: # Audio Damage Tattoo Chris Randall shares the latest on Audio Damage’s forthcoming virtual drum synthesizer (check little demo audio clip here ). Audio Damage Tattoo (alpha) Chris writes: With the caveat that the UI isn't 100% finalized, here you go. Have a gander at Tattoo, our first instrument. Some salient points: No samples. This is a drum synthesizer. Each voice is purpose-built, as well, rather than just having a general percussion synthesis voice. Every synthesis control has a sequencer attached to it. If you own Replicant, you can immediately see how the randomization/likelihood works for each channel/voice. The sequencer also outputs MIDI (in the VST only, of course) so you can use the randomization features in other drum synths or external hardware. So, there you have it. We haven't decided on a price, and I have no idea whatsoever as to when it will be done. We've got the synthesis all in place, but not "tuned," and the sequencer is about 80% complete, but the hardest parts haven't been done yet. # Synthgeek free samples Synthgeek has added another sample pack to the free samples page. The Kurzweil percussion 1 (2.15MB) sample pack includes 15 drum/percussion sounds from a Kurzweil K2000S. # Create Digital Music
