Not too long ago it was preferable to mic the amp. But now with all these cabinet simulators built into amplifiers, direct is the way to go. NOTE: Make sure the output you’re using is not a speaker out, and is not a “line out”. It must say “recording output”, “compensated output”, or something like that. If you try to record with a normal line output it will sound shrill and harsh, like a kazoo. Recording outputs are voiced to sound like a miked speaker cabinet.
